We are seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Research Assistant to join the Impact Engineering Laboratory at the Department of Engineering Science (Begbroke Science Park). The post is funded by Innovate UK and Rolls Royce and is a fixed-term appointment until November 2020.
This purpose of this project is to provide improved understanding of the mechanical response of titanium alloys subject to ice impact, in particular the mechanisms of damage and their effects on fatigue life. You will be responsible for characterising the strain-rate dependence of specific ice microstructures and lightweight aerospace alloys, as well as developing novel experimental and diagnostic techniques for the study of impact events between ice and titanium alloys.
You should possess a doctorate (or be near completion) in mechanical engineering, materials science, or any other related discipline, and have a good understanding of the mechanical behaviour of materials at high strain-rate. You should also have good communication skills.
Informal enquiries may be addressed to Professor Daniel Eakins (firstname.lastname@example.org)
You will be required to upload a covering letter/supporting statement, including a brief statement of research interests (describing how past experience and future plans fit with the advertised position), CV and the details of two referees as part of your online application.
Only online applications received before 12.00 midday on 17 January 2019 can be considered.
The Department holds an Athena Swan Bronze award, highlighting its commitment to promoting women in Science, Engineering and Technology.
