Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position within Dr Geoff Higgins’s group. The primary goal of this group is to develop new treatments to increase the efficacy of radiotherapy.

We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher interested in developing novel drug treatments to increase tumour radiosensitivity by altering tumour cell metabolism. Dr Higgins’s group is seeking to develop and test novel compounds aimed at increasing tumour radiosensitivity by reducing tumour hypoxia. This work is being undertaken in close collaboration with Professor Gillies McKenna (Oncology) and Professor Chris Schofield (Chemistry).

The successful candidate will be involved in developing and testing the efficacy of these compounds. This will involve the use of 3D spheroid tumour models and in vitro tests to assess the effects of these drugs on the oxygen consumption rate of tumour cells.

You will hold, or be working towards, a PhD in Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Biology or a related science, with a high level of technical competence and experience in cell biology and/or chemical biology/medicinal chemistry. You will also have first author publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Previous radiation or cancer biology experience and a current UK Home Office Personal Licence (PIL) (or international equivalent) would be advantageous.

This is a full-time post and is offered until December 2019.
