This post is an exciting opportunity for a research pathologist to establish a portfolio of collaborative experimental cancer medicine research linked to clinical trial activity. You will be able to draw on world leading researchers from across the University and the Oxford University Hospitals Foundation Trust including the Department of Oncology, the BRC Multi-modal Cancer Therapy Theme, the Oxford branch of the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, the Oxford Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre and the CR-UK Oxford Centre. You will lead on integrating world leading pathology practices and research questions into the broad portfolio of GI research projects. Within this role is the scope to develop an independent, innovative research programme, working in collaboration with both basic and translational groups in Oxford.
You will carry out gastrointestinal pathology in relation to various research projects and oversee and facilitate the tissue handling of gastrointestinal samples for research, with a particular focus on fresh/fresh frozen material. You will also provide high quality teaching/training to DPhil students. Additionally, you will have a regular commitment to appropriate clinical activity which will support the trials programme.
An honorary contract with the Oxford University Hospitals Trust will be required for the successful candidate.
You will be FRCPath qualified or equivalent with full and specialist registration (and a licence) to practice with the General Medical Council or to be eligible for registration within 6 months of interview. You must also hold (or be within 6 months of award) of a CCT (or equivalent) by the date of interview. Experience of bio banking fresh tissue for research is also an essential requirement. A higher degree, e.g. PhD in a relevant area (research based) would be advantageous.
A professorial title may be sought from the University for suitably qualified candidates.
