We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Laboratory Facilities Support Officer to support the Building and Facilities Manager in ensuring that first class research support is maintained within the Department of Oncology.
This role has been created to provide support to the Building and Facilities Manager, mainly within the Old Road Campus Research Building (ORCRB) the Radiobiology Research Institute (RRI) and the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine (WIMM) but also at other departmental locations. Providing day-to-day, front-line general support with no immediate supervision, you will be expected to respond to enquiries and be responsible for resolving practical and technical issues. You will manage defined areas of research laboratory service provision and exercise judgement in bringing specific issues to the attention of the Building and Facilities Manager in a timely manner. The ability to collate and analyse data, using pertinent information to draft reports and to direct evolving protocols within a dynamic environment will be essential. The postholder will support the Building and Facilities Manager in developing routine service provision and in bespoke or specialist projects, contributing ideas and gathering supporting materials or data.
You will be educated to at least A-level standard or equivalent, preferably in a science subject and will be able to demonstrate experience in a practical research or hospital laboratory environment. Excellent communication skills are essential, together with experience of practical problem solving and troubleshooting. Knowledge of current Health and Safety requirements with a practical research environment. Experience in a similar role and a Facilities Management qualification would be advantageous but are not essential.
This is a full-time post, available for 3 years in the first instance.
